Come by the Los Angeles Convention Center on Saturday to check out these show highlights.

Already legends in the field of architecture and design (classic Eames shell chairs are pictured above), in 1977 Charles and Ray Eames set out to adapt a book by a Dutch educator into a short documentary, Powers of Ten. The film shows the human environment slowly receding as the camera zooms out over a park in Chicago into outerspace. In a matter of seconds, the Eamseses put the city in a radically new perspective, and began a new conversation about scale. After a screening of Powers of Ten, at Stage A at 2:30 p.m., Llisa Demetrios, Charles and Ray’s granddaughter, will discuss the short film’s legacy.

“For us, chaos comes with opportunities,” Michel Rojkind says. Rojkind Arquitectos, the firm he founded in Mexico City in 2002, seeks to impose a sense of order and shared responsibility in dense urban environments while maintaining a winking sense of playfulness about its work. By questioning the client’s brief, Rojkind’s portfolio shows how deceptively simple touches—a small park, for instance, or an interactive facade—can add up to make better cities. He will join us onstage Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Stage C to share his thoughts on how this balance can benefit the future of our urban fabric.

This year, Ellen DeGeneres, in collaboration with HGTV, made a splash in the design world with Ellen’s Design Challenge, which featured six aspiring designers jockeying for a grand prize of $100,000. We welcome Katie Stout, the winner of the competition, and her carpenter, Karl Champley, for a discussion with Dwell Editor-in-Chief Amanda Dameron, who was one of the judges on the show. Join the group at Stage A at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Dwell on Design Los Angeles Artist in Residence Norm Maxwell

On Saturday, local street artist Norm “Nomzee” Maxwell will spend the entire day creating a mural in real time as part of a live-painting demonstration on the show floor. Upon completion of the mural, the piece will be transported to Freehab, a Life Transformation Center in Sun Valley created by The Teen Project organization to help the area’s most vulnerable addicted and homeless youths toward a life of success.

Bezar founder, designer, and former Dwell writer Bradford Shellhammer

Bezar, a new e-commerce site by Fab co-founder Bradford Shellhammer, operates on a short-term sales model to connect emerging designers with online shoppers. With no product on sale for more than a week, each transaction is special and frees up digital shelf space to showcase more designers’ work. Shellhammer hopes the rapid rotation will lend upstart designers the exposure they need to compete in a crowded marketplace. He’ll join us on the J Geiger Stage Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to talk about championing the independent designer and the new face of design mentorship in the technological age.

The Lalo Outdoor Cinema is a new area on the showfloor at this year's Dwell on Design, centrally located next to the Airbnb Home and the Loll Beer Garden. The casual gathering zone will display ongoing screenings of terrific short architecture and design films, including Eames' Powers of Ten, as well as a short film on Lina Bo Bardi, and more.

The two will share their designs and their dedication to carrying on the tradition of craftsmanship in the design world. Visit Stage A at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday to hear from Dolenz and Daughters.
