On October 11 and 12, 2014, High Falls, New York, plays host to Field + Supply, a modern craft fair featuring work from a roster of Dwell favorites including Workstead, Egg Collective, The Commons, among others. "I'm really hoping to create an event in a new context where modern craft and design is elevated and taken more seriously while maintaining the spirit of a small town arts and crafts fair," organizer Brad Ford says.
Modern design wares at the Field + Supply fair

Field + Supply takes place at the Black Barn in High Falls, New York. Brad Ford, the event's organizer sought to feature designers who produce modern forms using traditional techniques as well as retailers who offer expertly curated shops. The Commons, whose pieces are shown here, specializes in selling housewares made in the USA. "In my experience, design fairs sometimes take themselves a little too serious," Ford says. "I thought it would be fun to shake things up a bit, but still have an amazing group of makers who are incredibly talented and well respected in the area of design."

Modern table by Brooklyn design studio Egg Collective

Brooklyn-based design studio Egg Collective, whose Bradford table and Hoynes mirror are shown here, is one of the exhibitors. "There are a significant number of people [in the Catskills] who I believe are taking craftsmanship to another level," Ford says. "I thought it would be interesting to gather a few of these makers along with some others from Brooklyn and Manhattan and give them the opportunity to showcase their work in a new context."

Simple ceramic mugs and plates by BDDW

Ford is looking forward to seeing BDDW's ceramics line, shown here, at the event. "I'd like to capture the attention of anyone that has an appreciation for beautiful, pure design and have them understand the dedication it takes to create a singular object or piece of furniture," says Ford of the audience he's trying to appeal to. "I respect manufacturing, but when you can incorporate something into your home that's made by hand, it instantly brings in a certain layer of soul and meaning."
