Take a look at these high-design homes in one of the world's busiest cities.

In the midst of Mexico City’s ever-changing landscape, a time-honored residential model endures: the high-rise. It is in such a building that David Levy—owner of the furniture maker Flexform’s New York showroom and the head of the Mexico-based development firm Piso 18—has designed an apartment for an art-collecting couple with two grown children and six grandchildren. A Murano chandelier hangs above a marble-topped dining table from the showroom.

House in Santa Fe, Mexico City

This house in a residential section of Santa Fe—a bustling business district in western Mexico City—is the product of a failed renovation effort. A couple bought an 8,500-square-foot house here and approached JSa, a Mexico City-based architectural firm, with the idea of remodeling it. The architects sized it up and quickly realized that the best solution would be to tear it down and start from scratch. Browse the results here.

Living area in a Mexico City home

To most eyes, Ezequiel Farca’s 1970s-style concrete home in Mexico City looked like a teardown. But Farca saw through all the restraints to create a spa-like refuge in a bustling cities. In many ways, his redesign of the massive structure, which sits in the city’s hilly Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood, is an elaborate disappearing act. The white exterior is painted a neutral gray-green, helping it recede into its setting. Finally, Farca and team stripped the interior back to the posts.

Apartment with red steel facade in Mexico by Rojkind

Rojkind Arquitectos designed this rooftop apartment for a ballerina above her father’s 1960s-era house in the Mexico City suburb of Tecamachalco. Dissatisfied with the look of the Cor-Ten steel exterior, Rojkind hired autobody workers to finish it with a coat of red automotive paint.

Dining room with DWR chairs, Ligne Roset table, and chandelier

A young family seeking a modern home in Mexico City turned to C Cúbica Architects, who designed a retreat from the city’s bustling streets that boasts high ceilings and an open layout. It was a challenge for the firm to create a modern space that strayed from the traditional homes for which the area is known. With tasteful furniture along with a refined mix of wood, steel, and glass, the home is a dream for a modern family.
