Designer's Description: How can a door be more than a door? This contemporary home's open plan necessitated a unique response to spatial definition. How to keep a home office connected to to the main floor's spaces while still affording the option of total privacy? IKONIKO's solution was to place two simple sliding doors at the corner of the room, creating an unexpected point of entry into the office. Suspended from sliding tracks recessed into the ceiling, the walnut doors subtly become a part of the architecture. When open, the doors become a part of the wall decoration and allow the home office to flow freely into the remaining spaces of the house. When the doors extend, they reach out into the open plan, forming the fourth corner of the room. Hidden pins mounted in the floor keep the doors securely in place. These unique doors do not simply divide spaces, but define space.
